History of Service with Conservation and Civic Organizations Awards and Recognition Accomplishments and Activities
• 16 years on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Wildlife Federation. Elected and served as as Chairman of the Board 2015 & 2016
• 31 years on the Board of Directors for the Campbell Outdoor Recreation Association. Currently serve as its President past 13 years
• 18 years as a member of the Pine Mountain Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Currently serve as Vice-President of the Chapter
• 19 years as a Life Member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and serve on its Royal Blue Chapter
• 2015 appointed to the Tennessee Off Highway Vehicle Advisory Committee by the Speaker of the House of Representatives
• 9 years on the Knox County Sherriff’s Merit Council and retired as it’s Chairman of the Board
• 2005 Distinguished Service Award from the RMEF
• 2005 Wildlife Conservationist of the Year from the Tennessee Wildlife Federation
• 2008 Elk Restoration Volunteer Award from the Tennessee Wildlife Recreation Agency
• 2010 RMEF’s highest honor with the Chairman’s Award for Volunteer of the Year
• 2012 Chairman’s Award from the Tennessee Wildlife Federation
• 2012 “Heroes of Conservation” from Field and Stream Magazine
• 2014 Dr. Jack O Gayden Leadership Award from the Tennessee Wildlife Federation
• Owner, operator and manager of an 800 acre recreational property named Hickory Creek Farm in Campbell County, TN, with over 27 years of active wildlife habitat management that includes 35 wildlife food plots
• Owned and produced the “East Tennessee Outdoors” Radio Program hosted by Knoxville News Sentinel Outdoor Writer, Bob Hodge, with Co-Hosts Joe Justice and Terry Lewis
• Developed, constructed and maintains the state’s first and only Elk Viewing Area named “The Hatfield Knob Wildlife Viewing Area”, annually visited by over 20,000 people
• Currently leading a TWF habitat initiative to create 10,000 acres of wildlife openings and other conservation programs in the North Cumberland’s Wildlife Management Area. This effort is bringing together volunteers from among at least 4 wildlife non-profits and TWRA to conduct these habitat improvements for all wildlife.
• Worked with TWRA as a Volunteer Coordinator for the past 17 years
• Worked with TWRA to create a 50+ volunteer crew for work on habitat restoration utilizing fire for controlled burns on the North Cumberland WMA
• Partnered with TWF, TWRA and RMEF to host Tennessee’s First Elk Hunt at the Hickory Creek Farm in Campbell County in 2009
• 2008 appointed to the White House Conference on North American Wildlife Policy under President GW Bush
• Hosts youth turkey hunts on Hickory Creek Farm in Campbell County where up to 12 youths (new hunters) are taken on a guided turkey hunt each spring
• Hosts an Annual Wounded Warrior/Disabled Turkey hunt for the last 15 years, where up to 26 handicap individuals are taken out on a guided turkey hunt each spring. This event has been recognized with the following awards:
o 2013 NWTF National Award for “Best Special Event of 2013”
o 2014 NWTF National Award for “Hunting Heritage Award for 2014”
o 2015 NWTF National Award for “Best Partner Event for 2015”
o 2016 NWTF National Award for “R-3 Event Award”
o 2017 NWTF National Award for “Best Partnership Award for 2017”, placing the Pine Mountain Longbeards into the NWTF Hall of Fame
